The objective of CIMA is clear: to bring together large companies with the common goal of increasing productivity and promoting agricultural innovation and sustainability across more than 20,000 hectares of diverse crops, from olives and almonds to pistachios, vineyards, and citrus fruits.

The consolidation of this group represents a significant milestone in the sector, and Elaia is proud to be part of it alongside other prominent companies such as Aggraria, Alboris La Mancha, Bodegas Matarromera, Castillo de Canena, Cortijo de la Reina, Eurosemillas, Pago de La Jaraba, Trifolium, Alltech Crop Science, and Ideagro. This scientific-technical cooperation project has conducted over 3,000 analyses since its inception in late 2023.

Led by Alltech Crop Science, the initiative aims to promote soil health and bring the agri-food community together towards a more prosperous future. At the first CIMA meeting held on May 7th in Pago de La Jaraba, the main points of the project and future action plans were presented.

Francisco Gálvez, from Alltech Crop Science Europe, shared knowledge and data accumulated over years of partnership with Ideagro to enhance competitiveness and sustainability in the sector. He emphasized the importance of acting to preserve soil in the face of challenges such as climate change and food security.

There are five challenges to work on to ensure the future sustainability of agriculture:

  • Halt degradation and protect soil biodiversity to ensure the long-term sustainability of crops.
  • Better manage natural resources.
  • Minimize the impact on climate change.
  • Maximize the potential of crops by improving their health and increasing yields.
  • Strengthen agricultural land management strategies to integrate species conservation and natural spaces.

Agustín Murillo, General Manager of Alltech Crop Science Iberia, highlighted the importance of understanding and promoting beneficial components to achieve a balance in soil microbiomes.

In an increasingly demanding world, Elaia and other participating companies strive to make a positive impact on the environment and support sustainable food production.

CIMA represents an opportunity to unite innovative thinking with concrete actions in the field.
